On 8–11 October 2024, Prolinnova–Kenya (PK) hosted a training workshop in Kisimu to introduce and reinforce concepts participatory innovation development (PID) and its institutionalision to people – some of them new to the Prolinnova network – who are involved in the ELI-FaNS project (Expanding the promotion of Local Innovation for Food Security and healthy Nutrition to Strengthen resilience with focus on women). This project, which runs from January 2023 to December 2025, focuses on integrating PID into agricultural research, development and education, including among farmer organisations. It is funded by Misereor (Germany) and is implemented in ten action-learning sites in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. The workshop participants included farmer innovators, researchers in the Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) and staff of nongovernmental and community-based organisations in Kenya, plus the new coordinator of Prolinnova–Uganda, Jacinta Nekesa, the Executive Director of Environmental Alert. The training team consisted of Chesha Wettasinha (International Support Team, Netherlands), Vincent Mariadho (PK coordinator), Joe Nchor (ELI-FaNS coordinator, based in Ghana) and Jacob Wanyama, Prolinnova’s Subregional Coordinator for Eastern & Southern Africa, based in Kenya.
