The Prolinnova Country Platforms (CPs) in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda held a one-day regional project meeting for coordination of and co-learning from CLIC–SR (Combining Local innovation Capacities with Scientific Research) funded by Rockefeller Foundation, USA. Makonge Righa (World Neighbors, Prolinnova–Kenya), Marise Espineli (International Institute of Rural Reconstruction, IIRR) and Wim Hiemstra & Ann Waters-Bayer from ETC Foundation / Prolinnova International Secretariat organised the meeting.
The four main topics covered were:
1) Field studies on local perceptions of and responses to change: methods, process experienced, challenges, opportunities identified, main lessons
2) Policy-change reviews: constraints, challenges & opportunities in influencing policy to support a farmer-led PID approach
3) Monitoring and evaluation
4) The way forward: training in Participatory Innovation Development (PID) / Local Innovation Supports Funds (LISFs), facilitating PID (combining local innovation & scientific knowledge), policy dialogue and preparing for the Prolinnova International Partners Workshop (IPW).
During the IPW, the CPs involved in CLIC-SR in eastern Africa and LINEX-CCA (Local Innovation and Experimentation for Climate Change Adaptation) in southeast Asia facilitated a joint session on local innovation and PID in response to external change experienced by rural communities.
The report on the CLIC-SR meeting can be found here, and the session during the International Partners Workshop 2013 on strengthening community resilience to change can be found here.
