The Prolinnova Platform in Eastern and Southern Africa Sub-Region (ESA), together with partners in Uganda and Kenya, received a grant of USD50,000 from the East Africa Regional Agroecology Fund (EARAF) to support an 18-month project titled “Strengthening Grassroots-led Agroecology Practitioners for Climate Resilience and Policy Dialogue in Kenya and Uganda”. The project will run from August 2025 to January 2027, implemented by partners within the Prolinnova Country Platforms of Uganda and Kenya, and managed by Environmental Alert (Uganda) in cooperation with World Neighbors (Kenya). Other partners are Kulika, Uganda, and Inades-Formation, Kenya.
The main objective of the project is to catalyse bottom-up agroecological innovation and knowledge sharing that fosters climate resilience and sustainable, equitable food systems rooted in local communities in Uganda and Kenya.
The project seeks to:
- Strengthen the capacity of grassroots organisations and smallholder farmers to implement agroecological practices that increase climate resilience, food security and environmental sustainability
- Facilitate knowledge co-creation and dissemination of agroecological knowledge by integrating traditional, local and scientific knowledge through farmer-to-farmer exchanges, community and actors’ learning forums, and participatory research
- Promote policy dialogue and advocacy to influence local, national and regional policies in support of agroecology, farmer-led joint innovation and community-led food systems
- Document, evaluate and scale up successful grassroots-led agroecological models through participatory action research; knowledge sharing & learning networks, and community-to-community exchanges
- Advance gender equity and youth leadership and inclusion in agroecological transitions by ensuring active participation and targeted support for women- and youth-led initiatives.
