Prolinnova–Kenya at UNDP AFCIA 2023 workshop in Philippines

On 17–19 October 2023, Prolinnova–Kenya (PK) took part in an Adaptation Fund Climate Innovations Accelerator (AFCIA) workshop hosted in Manila, Philippines, by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Two representatives from each of the 44 grantees in Cohorts 1 and 2 funded by AFCIA attended the workshop. Vincent Mariadho, PK Coordinator, and Lucious Achacha, World Neighbors Finance Associate, represented PK.

The workshop offered a platform for sharing of experiences between the grantees. The 3-day programme also incorporated institutional capacity-building sessions on reporting (narrative and financial) and documentation – especially storytelling, photography and videography. Other key areas covered were funding approaches for sustainable development, partnership and development, impact and business development, and fund mobilisation with focus on funding and innovation.

On the final day, Vincent joined a panel discussion on the AFCIA Innovation Small Grants Aggregator Platform (ISGAP) and lessons learnt from the engagement with Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and MSc Business schools. This was a technical assistance input from the UNDP, which attached students to their AFCIA-funded projects. The PK project hosted students from the University of California Los Angeles, Oxford University and Yale. The panel took on the perspectives of the grantees, students and lecturers as represented by Vincent (PK), Orland Valdez (Oxford University) and Annika Surmeier (a professor at the University of Cape Town), respectively.
