New Subregional Coordinator in West & Central Africa! / Nouveau coordinateur sous-régional en Afrique occidentale et centrale !

Abdel-Karim Ali Mahamane is the new Prolinnova Subregional Coordinator (SRC) for West & Central Africa as of 1 April 2020. His position is paid out of two projects funded through Misereor/KZE (Catholic Central Agency for Development Aid) in Germany: SULCI-FaNS (Scaling Up Local Capacity to Innovate in Food and Nutrition Security) and Proli-GEAFaSa (Promoting local innovation in water management in family farming in the Sahel) He will be coordinating the subregional activities of the Country Platforms (CPs) in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali and Senegal – and possibly of future CPs that form themselves. He is successor to Georges Djohy, who has been SRC since May 2017 and has taken on a new position in research.

Originally from Niger, Abdel has been living in Senegal since 2003, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Agronomy (crop production). He also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specialised in project management from the African Center for Graduate Studies in Management (CESAG). Prior to his Prolinnova SRC position, he worked on various development issues, including biofuels, climate change, waste management, food security and environmental governance within the framework of multistakeholder projects, particularly with civil society organisations. Abdel is fully bilingual in French and English and also speaks four African languages (Hausa, Zarma, Sonraï and Wolof).

Prolinnova welcomes Abdel as the new SRC for West & Central Africa, who is working in close collaboration with Brigid Letty, the SRC for Eastern & Southern Africa.

Abdel-Karim Ali Mahamane est le nouveau coordinateur sous-régional (CSR) de Prolinnova pour l’Afrique occidentale et centrale à partir du 1er avril 2020. Son poste est rémunéré grâce à deux projets financés par Misereor/KZE (Agence centrale catholique pour l’aide au développement) en Allemagne : SULCI-FaNS (Accroître les capacités locales d’innovation pour la sécurité alimentaire et nutritionnelle) et Proli-GEAFaSa (Promotion de l’innovation locale dans la gestion de l’eau en agriculture familiale au Sahel). Il coordonnera les activités sous-régionales des Plateformes Pays (PPs) au Burkina Faso, au Cameroun, au Ghana, au Mali et au Sénégal – et éventuellement des futures PPs qui se formeront elles-mêmes. Il succède à Georges Djohy, qui est CRS depuis mai 2017 et a pris un nouveau poste dans la recherche.

Natif du Niger, Abdel vit depuis 2003 au Sénégal, où il a obtenu un Diplôme supérieur en agronomie (production végétale). Il a également obtenu une maîtrise en administration des affaires (MBA), spécialisée dans la gestion de projets du Centre africain d’études supérieures en gestion (CESAG). Avant d’occuper le poste de CSR de Prolinnova, il a travaillé sur diverses questions de développement, notamment les biocarburants, le changement climatique, la gestion des déchets, la sécurité alimentaire et la gouvernance environnementale dans le cadre de projets multipartites, en particulier avec des organisations de la société civile. Abdel est parfaitement bilingue en français et anglais et parle également quatre langues africaines (haoussa, zarma, sonraï et wolof)

Prolinnova souhaite la bienvenue à Abdel en tant que nouveau CSR pour l’Afrique occidentale et centrale, qui travaille en étroite collaboration avec Brigid Letty, la CSR pour l’Afrique orientale et australe.
