Four new members in the Prolinnova Oversight Group (POG)
The terms of four members of the POG, the governance body of the Prolinnova international network, came to an end in June 2024 – those of Bernard Triomphe and Suman Manandhar (both independent POG members) and of TJ James (for Asia) and Violet Kirigua (for Eastern & Southern Africa). To replace them, the Prolinnova Community of Practice elected two new independent members for 2-year terms and two new persons to represent the multistakeholder Country Platforms (CPs) in their respective regions for 3-year terms.
- Basanta Rana Bhat (Nepal) is the new representative of the CPs in Asia. He holds an MSc in Agriculture (Conservation Ecology) from Tribhuvan University in Chitwan, Nepal, and works with the Institute for Social and Environmental Research in Kathmandu, Nepal. He has been an active member of Prolinnova–Nepal since 2008. He is a skilled trainer of participatory innovation development (PID) and brought out a PID training manual in Nepali.
- Birgit Habermann (Austria) is a new independent member of the POG. She holds Master’s degrees in ecology (Vienna University) and agroforestry (Bangor University) as well as a PhD in Development Studies (University of Sussex). She works since 2019 with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), based in Nairobi, Kenya. She is engaged in transdisciplinary research on farmer-led innovation and learning for adaptation to climate change.
- Ernest Letsoalo (South Africa) is the new representative of the CPs in Eastern & Southern Africa. He holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural Extension from the University of Limpopo and a Master of Philosophy in Science and Technology with focus on Agricultural Knowledge Production and Utilization from Stellenbosch University. He is a lecturer at the University of Venda in Limpopo Province. He has been actively involved in the Prolinnova network since the International Partners Workshop in Ethiopia in 2004.
- Mutizwa Mukute (Zimbabwe) is a new independent member of the POG. He holds a PhD in Environmental Education from Rhodes University in South Africa. As an international consultant, he facilitates environmental education, transformative learning, developmental evaluation and organisational development. His involvement with Prolinnova started in 2000, when he was a member of the CGIAR NGO Committee and co-developed the Prolinnova concept.
Many thanks to Bernard, James, Suman and Violet for their advice and guidance while serving in the POG! We look forward to further collaboration with them in other ways within the Prolinnova family to promote local innovation and farmer-led participatory research and development.

Quatre nouveaux membres dans le groupe de supervision de Prolinnova (POG)
Les mandats de quatre membres du POG, l’organe de gouvernance du réseau international Prolinnova, ont pris fin en juin 2024 – ceux de Bernard Triomphe et Suman Manandhar (tous deux membres indépendants du POG) et de TJ James (pour l’Asie) et Violet Kirigua (pour l’Afrique orientale et australe). Pour les remplacer, la communauté de pratique Prolinnova a élu deux nouveaux membres indépendants pour un mandat de deux ans et deux nouvelles personnes pour représenter les plateformes pays (PPs) multipartites dans leurs régions respectives pour un mandat de trois ans.
- Basanta Rana Bhat (Népal) est le nouveau représentant des PPs en Asie. Il est titulaire d’une maîtrise en agriculture (écologie de la conservation) de l’Université Tribhuvan à Chitwan, au Népal, et travaille à l’Institut de recherche sociale et environnementale à Katmandou, au Népal. Il est un membre actif de Prolinnova-Népal depuis 2008. Il est un formateur compétent en matière de développement participatif de l’innovation (DPI) et a publié un manuel de formation DPI en népalais.
- Birgit Habermann (Autriche) est un nouveau membre indépendant du POG. Elle est titulaire d’une maîtrise en écologie (Université de Vienne) et en agroforesterie (Université de Bangor) ainsi que d’un doctorat en études du développement (Université du Sussex). Elle travaille depuis 2019 avec l’Institut international de recherche sur l’élevage (ILRI), basé à Nairobi, au Kenya. Elle est engagée dans une recherche transdisciplinaire sur l’innovation et l’apprentissage menés par les paysans pour l’adaptation au changement climatique.
- Ernest Letsoalo (Afrique du Sud) est le nouveau représentant des PPs en Afrique orientale et australe. Il est titulaire d’une maîtrise en vulgarisation agricole de l’Université de Limpopo et d’une maîtrise de philosophie en sciences et technologies, axée sur la production et l’utilisation des connaissances agricoles, de l’Université de Stellenbosch. Il est chargé de cours à l’Université de Venda, dans la province de Limpopo. Il a participé activement au réseau Prolinnova depuis l’atelier international des partenaires en Éthiopie en 2004.
- Mutizwa Mukute (Zimbabwe) est un nouveau membre indépendant du POG. Il est titulaire d’un doctorat en éducation environnementale de l’Université de Rhodes en Afrique du Sud. En tant que consultant international, il facilite l’éducation environnementale, l’apprentissage transformateur, l’évaluation du développement et le développement organisationnel. Son engagement dans Prolinnova a commencé en 2000, lorsqu’il était membre du comité des ONGs du CGIAR et a co-développé le concept de Prolinnova.
Un grand merci à Bernard, James, Suman et Violet pour leurs conseils et leur accompagnement au sein du POG ! Nous nous réjouissons de poursuivre notre collaboration avec eux dans d’autres domaines au sein de la famille Prolinnova afin de promouvoir l’innovation locale ainsi que la recherche et le développement participatifs menés par les paysans.
