Vacancy: Subregional coordinator in Eastern & Southern Africa

Prolinnova is seeking a new coordinator (part-time) in Eastern & Southern Africa (ESA). The key responsibility is to coordinate the setting up and operation of the ESA subregional platform for mutual learning and joint action in promoting local innovation and farmer-led participatory research and development, particularly within institutions of agricultural research, advisory services and higher education.

      The Subregional Coordinator (SRC) will work with a taskforce that represents the various Prolinnova Country Platforms in ESA. S/he will also work together with Abdel Ali Mahamane, the SRC for West & Central Africa, to coordinate mutual learning, South–South mentoring and policy dialogue at subregional and regional level.

       Minimum requirements for applicants:

  • ·       Demonstrated interest in promoting local innovation related to small-scale/family farming
  • ·       At least a Masters degree in development, agriculture, food & nutrition security, sociology, innovation or related field
  • ·       Good knowledge of participatory approaches such as farmer-led participatory research.
  • ·       Acquaintance with Prolinnova’s work in Africa
  • ·       A minimum of five year’s professional experience
  • ·       Good writing, networking, facilitation and communication skills in English
  • ·       Living and working within the subregion and able to travel within the region
  • ·       Good MS Office, MS Excel, Internet and social media skills
  • ·       Experience in networking and advocacy
  • ·       Keen awareness of gender equity issues
  • ·       Availability for part-time work from 1 June 2020 onwards.

Note:

  • ·       Priority will be given to women, all other factors being equal.
  • ·       Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French would be an advantage
  • ·       The applicant may not hold a full-time position elsewhere in conjunction with this position as SRC.

Place of employment: In country of residence of selected candidate with travel to countries in ESA as required.

Duration of work: Part-time (hrs/wk to be agreed) starting 1 June 2020 until at least 30 Sept 2022. The initial contract will be for a 6-month probation period; extension will depend on the SRC’s initiative in communicating with the taskforce and CP coordinators, developing the subregional platform and interacting with the SRC for WCA for regional sharing and learning within Africa.
