Introduction
Farmer-led joint research with other actors in agricultural research and development is central to the Prolinnova approach. It builds on local innovation processes by farmers and is often referred to as “Participatory Innovation Development” (PID). Although PID is integral to all projects and initiatives under the umbrella of the Prolinnova network, some projects focus specifically on different aspects of farmer-led joint research:
- CLIC-SR: Combining Local Innovative Capacity with Scientific Research (2012–16)
- Study on impact of farmer-led research and development (2013–14)
- Farmer-led Research Workshop (May 2015, Ouagadougou)
- FaReNe: Farmer-led Research Networks (2014–present)
The booklet Farmer-led joint research presents experiences of Prolinnova partners in PID up to the date of publication (2010). The key points are captured in the 4-page policy brief "Tapping the energy of farmers’ creativity: supporting farmer-led joint research”.
